BREAK IT DOWN: The Ultimate Reset

I’m going to get REAL with you for a minute here.  I just conquered the Beachbody Ultimate Reset and I’m here to tell you all about it.  It’s a 21 day cleanse for your whole body broken into three weeklong segments.  Each week comes with its own set of challenges but believe me when I tell you that you still get to eat, it’s just under strict guidelines.  This is no juice cleanse.  It is not a quick fix.  It is about retraining your brain and your body with how you look at nutrition, how you process food.  This is about getting rid of bad habits that may be stumping your progress and hopefully creating new ones.

Each week you will cut more and more out of your diet.  Starting with refined foods and animal products then eventually grains and legumes, which will have you eating a diet of fruits and veggies for your final week.  I loved that it was a gradual process and not cutting everything out all at once.

Each day you will eat 3 meals and 1 snack (which is optional).  And yes you can still have your Shakeology, of the Vegan variety (of which there are now more options!!)
For me, doing this detox was about getting over a plateau that I had been struggling with ever since I stopped breastfeeding my son.  It was about stripping down my nutrition to figure out what is and what isn’t working well with my body.
There were two issues that came up for me while on the reset: First, NO WORKING OUT FOR 21 DAYS.  That was more of a struggle for me than I ever thought it would be. But when you spend the last year focusing on your health and fitness, my workouts had become more of an outlet for me and I didn’t fully realize that until this moment.  And second, I was forced to cook up three separate meals every night.  Yikes.  My son has quite a few allergies so he gets his own dinner, then my husband and finally my own dinner.  This got old for me real quick so lucky for me they also have what they call the “Reset In A Crunch” meal plan which became my saving grace.
Here is a sampling of my meals during my 21 Days:
I won’t lie to you.  I did have a cheat or 2 during my 21 days.  But I didn’t let it get me off track and I jumped right back on the plan ASAP.  It is also imperative that you hydrate, so lots and lots of water.  Aim for a gallon of water a day.

This program is hard but YOU WILL GET RESULTS!  Stick with it for 21 days and you will feel better, you will lose weight, you will cleanse your body of all that nasty stuff, you will have created better habits and broken yourself of bad habits.
My results were quite astounding: down exactly 10 pounds and over 4 inches in my waist and hips alone.  But now it’s about how I continue to keep moving forward and not ruin my results by going back to my old ways.

What’s This ALL ACCESS All About?

Are you like the “old me”?  Anytime I was set to travel, I would ALWAYS pack gym clothes which would virtually always come back still clean.  But never fail, it would happen time and again.  This vicious cycle of mine finally ended when I found Beachbody on Demand.  I didn’t need to leave my hotel room or find a gym or studio to get my workout in.  I’ve never been a runner so throwing my sneakers on and hitting the pavement just wasn’t for me.

Mommin: Firsts, Lasts and Everything In Between

It’s crazy and hard for me to believe that my little man will be 18 months this week. You get to this place where it’s hard to imagine what life before him was like.   Hitting up the movies on a snowy afternoon or grabbing a nice dinner at the spur of the moment, heck even flying solo.

Something truly awesome about motherhood is all the firsts you get to experience with your little bundle.  Naps, feedings, rolling over, movements, sounds, words, crawling, foods, walking, the list goes on and on.  But the flip side is that some of those don’t last long and if only you got a little heads up as to when it would happen for the last time, maybe I would snap a pic, whether in my mind or in reality to remember these moments better.  It tugs at the heartstrings not to remember the last time he was snuggled into the Ergo out on a walk with our fur baby Mr Bo Jangles and fell asleep.  I never received a memo – hey mom I won’t be breastfeeding anymore or this is probably the last time I’ll fall asleep and nap in your arms or remembering the last time I wore him all snuggled in.
In a day and age where it’s all social media – Twitter, Instagram, Facebook, Snapchat oh my.  You can get lost in all the apps on your phone.  It’s time to be present, live in the moment and simply enjoy every moment – the snuggles and laughs, learning, exploring, growing and crying – as I know it won’t last long and one day I will turn around and he will be yet another year older.
For now, I fear we’re moving into the “terrible twos” and I’m going to lean on my snuggles and workouts  . . . oh and wine and just take it all in.

Home or Away: My Top Tips For Staying Healthy While Traveling

Traveling is certain to take a toll on anyone for a number of reasons but especially if you’re working to make changes to a healthier lifestyle and a stronger, fitter you.  Would you believe me if I told you that I started my journey on January 2, 2016 and that I travelled a total of roughly 11 weeks during the year and still found myself down 30 pounds, countless inches and going strong on my journey to a healthier, stronger me by the end of 2016?!

Here are my tops tips from what I’ve learned.

  1. Keep Moving.  Don’t let being on vacation or away from home keep you from exercising.  Just because your environment is different it doesn’t mean that you need to stop moving completely.  Go for a walk, go for a hike, run on the beach or trek around the neighborhood but start your day with some form of activity.  With Beachbody on Demand, I am able to bring my workouts with me and do them anywhere I can bring my phone, laptop or plug in the Roku.  And I don’t need wifi as you can download up to 7 workouts to play anytime.
  2. Make healthy eating decisions.  I’m not saying you cannot enjoy or indulge in a little yummy goodness but just don’t let yourself go crazy at every meal.  Make a plan even if it’s in your head.  I’m going to have a drink (or two) with dinner so make sure your breakfast and lunch are healthier choices.  Choose lean meats, vegetable, fruits.  Still try to stay away from sugary options.
  3. Make a plan.  I like to plan ahead by bringing some healthy snack options with me like nuts, bananas, carrots, Shakeology, Rx Bars.  If you have the options with you already then it is a no-brainer when you’re stuck in a situation where there are no good choices for you.  It’s great to pack in your carry-on as well as we all know airport options can be pretty bleak at times.
  4. Drink lots of water.  Staying hydrated is key no matter where you are – home or away.    It will help with fatigue, flush out toxins and will help with digestion amongst other great benefits.
  5. Don’t stress.  Rome wasn’t built in a day and neither will your healthy lifestyle.  Focus on making small changes as they will in the end make a big impact.

  • Get enough sleep
    • Sleep can make such a big difference on how you feel – mind and body.  Not only does it make you feel better but your mind, weight and heart will all benefit.

 

  • Eat every 2-3 hours
    • Keep your metabolism burning all day long.  People often think starving yourself and going long periods between meals is good for weightless but in fact it is the exact opposite.  Your body starts to work off reserves and cuts back – leaving you sluggish and your metabolism slows down.

 

  • Exercise
    • It doesn’t matter what you do but get your body moving. There are so many options out there to get you active – walking, yoga running, bootcamp classes, cycling.  Find something you enjoy doing and you are more apt to stick with it.  Try to be as active as you can.  It’s not only good for keeping you healthy and fit but the benefits link to your heart and is an amazing stress reliever.

 

  • Plan ahead – snacks
    • I always keep healthy snacks and a shaker bottle with a Shakeology packet packed in my baby bag just in case we are out later than planned.  You don’t want to end up hungry with nothing to eat and have a #Snaccident
    • Apples, Bananas and nuts are all great for throwing in your bag.

 

  • Plan ahead – meal planning
    • I always plan out my week with regards to my family’s meals and snacks on Sundays then hit up the grocery store to ensure I have all the ingredients that I need.  The better you plan, the more likely you will be to succeed.
    • I also like to use services like Peapod, Instacart or Amazon Fresh to get my groceries.  This ensure I am less likely to go off the rails with what goes in my cart.

 

  • Limit your alcohol
    • Yes I said it!  I love wine!  But if I’m struggling with my weight, it’s the first thing to cut back on.  If you’re struggling with those last 10 pounds, or even 5, cut it out and see what happens.  I think a lot of times we forget that alcohol has calories and they can add up really fast.

 

  • Cut out the sugar
    • Amongst other benefits of ditching sugar from you diet is that you’ll cut back on unnecessary calories which will help you lose some lbs
