Since college, I had always struggled with my weight. It was one diet and crazy fad after another. And believe me, I tried them ALL! Thursday Taste: Raspberry Chia Pudding

Raspberry Chia Pudding


If you’ve got a craving for something healthy and delicious for these warm summer mornings, look no further than Raspberry Chia Pudding!

  • 2 cups unsweetened almond milk beverage
  • 2 tsp. raw honey
  • ½ cup chia seeds
  • 2 cups fresh (or frozen) raspberries (reserve 8 for garnish)
  • Fresh mint leaves (for garnish; optional)
  1. Combine almond milk, honey, chia seeds, and raspberries in a medium bowl; mix well.
  2. Cover bowl; refrigerate for at least 4 hours or overnight, mixing after 2 hours.
  3. Place chia seed mixture in small serving glasses or bowls; garnish with raspberries and mint leaves if desired.
  4. Serve and ENJOY!

Stop the Gimmicks – Bingeing, Diet Pills and Fads OH MY

In the past, I was the queen of fad diets and extremes.  In college, I would gain 15/20 pounds during the school year and lose it over the summer months by working out loads and eating nothing but salad.  No lie, this happened all four years!  For me, it was all or nothing.  My mindset was always that you either spent a ridiculous amount of time at the gym and starve yourself or sit on the couch and eat ice cream all day – there was no in-between.  If you had one bad day, then everything you had worked for would be thrown out the window so I would just give up.  My whole life has been this way – exaggerated one extreme or another – being extremely active or hanging out on the couch binge watching my favorite shows.  For me, I didn’t feel like or realize that a “happy medium” was doable.  I was that person who tried everything – every gimmick and crazy fad to lose weight.  You name it, I tried it – diet pills (ended up with a stomach condition), starvation (loved food too much for this one to stick), Weight Watchers (hated counting / figuring out “points”), Atkins Diet (really no pasta for the rest of my life, no thanks), Caveman Diet (come on!), Cabbage Soup Diet, Celebrity Liquid Diet (urge to chew my food would takeover and have you tasted this stuff??) and on and on.  The gimmicks are out there and in full force trying to take your money for results that are too good to be true and guess what – THEY ARE!

Fast forward to August 2015, after a mere 23 hours a labor, I gave birth to my little bit of heaven on earth and tiniest love of my love.  My emotions and hormones were running rampant.  I knew my body has just done something truly amazing and life changing but I felt horrible about myself.  I felt off, fat and uncomfortable in my skin.  I knew I needed to do something but wanted it to be lasting.  I didn’t want another fad diet but I also did not have the time to spend hours at the gym away from my home and family.  Unless I wanted to be getting up even earlier than I was already or heading out at 7/8pm to workout, I needed to find another way.

That is when Beachbody entered my life.  The plethora of workout programs has something for everyone, no matter what your goals are – losing weight, toning up, gaining muscle, simply sweating it out, etc.  But it is so much more than this.  It is a community of people, supporting and encouraging one another.  Being there for you no matter what.  What initially got me was that I could workout from the comfort of my home, anytime I wanted and most workouts are only 30 minutes – score.  I didn’t need to be away from the house or my new little one for hours a day.  I could workout in my living room, during naptimes.  Why wouldn’t you give it a try?!  And that is exactly what I did.  I, like most people, started out on this journey of mine on January 2nd.  By May, I had lost my baby weight, had more energy and felt great!  So why not pay it forward, become a Beachbody Coach myself, continue on this journey of mine and get to help others at the same time.  We’re now into June, I’m nearing a 30 pound weight loss, I feel better than ever and have no plans of stopping anytime soon.

Don’t be fooled by the gimmicks!  The results you see from any of the Beachbody programs – P90X, Insanity Max, PiYo, 21 Day Fix, to just name a few – are all real results, from real people.  Trust me, I recently completed 1 round of 21 Day Fix Extreme – lost 6 pounds and 8.5 inches.  I didn’t starve. It’s not simply about creating a healthy lifestyle but about following your passions.  I just wish it hadn’t taken me 5+ months postpartum to figure out!

No Gym, No Time – No Problem

The Summer has me doing a fair amount of traveling – some in the country, some out of the country – by plane, train and automobile!  This would typically be where I would “fall off the wagon”.  I would give up by telling myself it’s only for a few days or a week but it becomes so much harder to get yourself back on track after a hiatus of any length of time.  And more often than not, I wouldn’t get back on track.

Thankfully that won’t be happening this time!  I’ll have my iPhone and iPad with me and BOD (Beachbody on Demand) so all I need is this device, wifi and a small amount of floor space.  No wifi? The Scoop – 21 Day Fix!

It’s everywhere – ads on tv, posts on Facebook, friends were talking about it – so I had to make sure it was my first full workout when joining the Beachbody family.  What am I talking about – 21 Day Fix.

Every Beachbody program has two components to it – nutrition / meal plan and the workouts.   As with all of their programs, a third component does exist as part of the nutrition – Shakeology.  For those who don’t know about Shakeology, I will only begin to scratch the surface of it as I could go on and on about the details and benefits.  It is a nutritious superfood, that for me has given me more energy, curbed my cravings, provided me with a great source of all my daily nutrients and curbed the symptoms of IBS.  That’s just to name a few!  All each program asks it that you swap out one meal a day for a Shakeology Shake.  It is not a weight-loss shake, although it does help you to lose weight.

With the 21 Day Fix and the 21 Day Fix Extreme, the nutrition is based off following a simple and easy to follow container system with step-by-step instructions.  When you sign up for the program, along with the workouts and nutrition plan, you are sent a set of (7) color-coded containers.  Each container is labeled for a specific food group – Red for protein, Yellow for carbs, Green for vegetables, Purple for fruits, Blue for healthy fats and cheese, and (2) Orange for seeds and oils.  They lay out instructions for how you are to calculate how many of each container you are allowed to consume per day so there is no grey area.  It’s all based off your current weight and lifestyle.  Don’t worry, you will not starve!  Just remember, this is not a diet but your next step to living a healthier life.


I did the 21 Day Fix Extreme so it was a rotation of 7 workouts, no rest day.  Each workout is completely different so your body doesn’t have time to get used to the moves before moving on – Pliyo Fix, Upper Fix, Lower Fix, Cardio Fix, Yoga Fix, Dirty 30 Fix and Pilates Fix.  Even though it’s called Extreme, they still have a modifier for the program so don’t feel too intimidated by the name.  Here is a sampling of each workout, done by yours truly.

I found the workouts to be fun, engaging and Autumn a great motivator.  You go through roughly 4 rounds of exercises so you are constantly moving and don’t have time to get bored.  Because you only do each move 30 – 60 seconds it makes the time go by faster, so while the workouts are only 30 minutes, it doesn’t even feel like that long.  Plus, you can do anything for 60 seconds!!  All you need is a set of heavy weights, light weights, resistance band and yoga mat (optional).

Now for the part you’re really reading this post for . . .my results.  In 21 days, I lost 6lbs and 8.5 inches.  In 21 days, I have become stronger, fitter and committed to a healthier lifestyle.

As a sidenote, I am breastfeeding so I increased my nutrition plan to the bracket above what the plan suggests to ensure I was getting enough calories to feed my son properly!

Overall, I love the 21 Day Fix Extreme – the variety of the workouts, the easy to follow meal plan, the fact that I have a bad knee so I have to be careful about too much jumping and I didn’t have any issues and each workout is only 30 minutes.  All in all, I will definitely be doing it again!

Taming The Ladies – My Favorite Sports Bras


If you’re anything like me, finding a truly supportive sports bra is anything but fun.  I have always been blessed in the lady department and after having my son and breastfeeding they only got bigger.  With that, it became even harder than before for me to simply pick any bra off the rack and know it would be able to support me.  Wah wah!  I have now been pushed into the realms of doing my research and paying up for ones that truly support so that I am not forced to “double-up” in order to not be hit in the face by my lovely lady parts.

Here are my favorites – they have worked for me, so hopefully they will work for you!


New Balance – The Shockingly Unshocking

What I love about this one is that not only is it super supportive but the straps can be altered so that you can easily breastfeed your infant yet it’s not your typical nursing bra that you would only really wear while nursing.  Plus, the fact that the straps have the ability to be adjusted makes it that much more comfortable and molded to your own body.



Moving Comfort – Rebound Racer

Zappos – $50

Like the New Balance bra, this one also have straps that can be adjusted therefore giving you easy access to the ladies for breastfeeding and yet not feel like you shelled out a pretty penny for a bra you will only wear for a year or so then get rid of.   Plus, any sports bra that can be tweaked even just a little bit further for you gets bonus points in my book.

I mean the name says it all!  I was a bit hesitant to try any of the Lululemon sports bras as I always feel like their products tend to be geared towards those who don’t have to worry about serious support but boy was I wrong!  This bra is everything you want in a sports bra – supportive yet feminine looking and all without feeling suffocated as can be the case.



Nike – Pro Bra

Nike – $22.50 – $30

My “go to” sports bra for my everyday activities where I don’t need quite as much support.  It’s only about low / medium support so if you’re planning on running or doing more intense cardio then this isn’t the bra for that.  But it’s super comfortable and they are always coming out with crazy fun prints to give your outfit a little bit of jazz.
