Beachbody Coaching – Could It Be For YOU?

Until you have a child, you have no idea how you will feel or what you would do.  When I first had Brodie and realized I would ALWAYS have to decide between him or my business, I knew what I needed to do for myself and my family was to close my business.  Was it easy? Where It All Began

When people ask the question “WHY?” it is so much more powerful a question than they may realize.  It goes much deeper and you wonder, how much time do you have??

On August 15, 2015, I gave birth to the love of my life – Brodie.  It was a roller coaster of fun for the better part of 24 hours.  I was active (for the most part) of my pregnancy and gained roughly 35 pounds by the time little man decided to arrive.  He is my little slice of heaven.  Being a mom is not easy – it is the hardest, most amazing, most rewarding “thing” I’ve ever done in my life.  And now, I can’t imagine my life without him, or what it was like before him.

After I had him, I felt off.  I was emotional.  I was tired.  I was all over the map with my emotions.  I felt disgusting, felt like I looked like an umpa-loompa.  How could my husband possible find me attractive again?  I needed something.  I needed an outlet – some “me” time.

After 5 months, I had lost only 15 of the 35 pounds I had gained.  Breastfeeding wasn’t making the pounds fall off.  So, I knew I needed to make a change while still allowing my body to get the calories and nutrients it needed to feed my tiny, amazing human.   With my husband’s work schedule and not wanting to lose out on time with my family, I didn’t know what to do.  That is when I found Beachbody.

With Beachbody, I was able to workout at home, on my own time and schedule.  The nutrition is easy to follow portion control.   There were no counting calories, no figuring out and counting points.  And I was still getting all the nutrition and calories that I needed to support breastfeeding my son.

It’s been 7 months since I started and I have lost over 40 pounds!! In the last three months, I have lost over 11.5inches!  And I’m not stopping anytime soon!  But it is what I have GAINED that is even greater – confidence, strength, energy, passion  . . . . . . I feel that I have become a better wife and mother.

In the middle of all this, I was also running my small business.  It was an up early, up late work all day kind of job.  There is no rest when you own the business personally.  In the 3 years that I owned it, I had A LOT of life changes.  I got engaged, married, became pregnant, had my son and lost all 3 of my living grandparents.  When I had Brodie, I had no idea that it would change my life quite the way that it had. He become my top priority but unfortunately when you own a business that is your number one responsibility and after ear-infections and high fevers and everything else that came with my precious munchkin I had had ENOUGH of putting him second.  Every time I had an employee not show up for their shift or being broken into twice or legal battles with our slumlord landlord – I knew my heart wasn’t in it anymore.  I knew that while I was my own boss that my family would NEVER come first, it would always be the business.  I knew that I wanted to never again have to sacrifice family time because of my work.  It simply wasn’t worth it to me.  So with a heavy heart, my husband and I decided it was time to move on and close the business.  I wanted Brodie to be my number one and know he was my number one that NOTHING came ahead of him and being his mother.  But when you find out all the countless lives that you’ve changed and the people that started their businesses because of you, it makes you realize the passion you have for health and fitness.  It was time to find another way that would allow me to be with my son and still inspire and motivate others at the same time.

With Beachbody Coaching that has become possible.  There are no set hours, no physical location that needs to be managed.  I can work when and where I need to.  And it gives me the support and accountability that I need to stay on track with my own health and fitness journey while helping others at the same time.  But it has given me so much more than I ever could have imagined in the short time that I have been part of this extraordinary company.

I want my son to learn from me.  I want to be a role model to him that I can be proud of.  I want him to learn to be active and really live life to the fullest.  I want him to learn to DREAM BIG and anything is possible.  With a bit of HEART and HUSTLE you can turn your PASSION into REALITY.

 

Traveling #MomBod – Tips and Tricks for Fitness On the Go

There was a time when travelling – anywhere – meant I would fall off the wagon.  It didn’t matter if I was heading back home by car, flying to my sister’s for a weekend of shenanigans or heading somewhere tropical for a getaway with my husband.  It was always the same – unhealthy snacks or airport food and the idea that I would pack my workout gear “just in case”.  That “just in case” never happened as they always came back home just as clean as when they left.  What I have learned since beginning my #mombod journey is that I don’t have to be perfect, I just have to keep moving forward.

What does this mean?

  • I have figured out what foods (or snacks) to pack in my carry-on
  • I have planned ahead and packed a healthy meal option in case one doesn’t exist for my breakfast or lunch at my destination
  • I have figured out what workouts can be done on-the-go
  • I have learned to make a plan for myself ahead of my travels so I’m not winging-it while away
  • I have learned if I do miss a workout that it’s not the end of the world, it’s not the end of my “diet” that I am creating a healthy lifestyle for myself and that perfection is not a requirement

 

What are my favorite / go-to flight snacks?

  • Banana / grapes / apple / orange – I’m not always great at getting my portion of fruits in on a normal day but these are great to travel with. I like to put them pre-packed in the fridge, ready to grab and go whenever your flight is.
  • Carrots with hummus – Snag yourself a couple of those pre-portioned hummus packs and some carrots. I also happen to enjoy sliced zucchini with hummus.
  • Pre-portioned nuts – almonds, cashews, pistachios, walnuts (all natural – i.e. – unsalted, not chocolate covered, etc.)
  • Single-serve string cheese

 

What are my go-to workouts?

  • With Beachbody On Demand, you can workout anywhere you can bring your iPhone – with or without Wi-Fi
  • Prior to leaving on my trip, I will make a game plan for what workouts I might like to do and I will make sure to download 5/6 of the workouts on the BOD app on my iPhone. This way if I have no access to Wi-Fi I am still covered.
  • I am currently doing Insanity Max: 30, which makes it easy for me to pre-plan as I will simply download the next 5/6 workouts on my calendar. With this fitness program, you don’t need weights or any other equipment it uses your bodyweight with cardio
  • Other go-to programs: 21 Day Fix Extreme – Pilates Fix Extreme uses a band which travels very easily; CIZE – who doesn’t love a good dance session, also without any fitness equipment.
  • With any of these programs, you need very little space, about your heights worth of floor space and you are good to go!

 

My other travel notes:

  • I like to have a look at potential meal / menu options. If we’re heading out to dinner at certain places, then I’ll have a look over the menu ahead of time and plan out what I will eat.  This way I don’t feel rushed when it comes time to order and end up picking something spur-of-the-moment that I’ll regret later.
  • I pack enough Shakeology single-serve packets for at least one a day, sometimes I plan for two, again just in case. I’ll typically have one for breakfast every day with some fruit so that I know that I am at the very least starting the day off with a serious dose of nutrition in my belly.  On vacation I will mix it with ice and water or with my recent travels to the UK, coffee!  No need for a blender or anything but my Shakeology cup.
  • In the last 10 months, I plan my days based on my son’s naps / nap schedule. His naps typically last an hour and a half – but you never know.  When we recently travelled to the UK, some days they were only 40 minutes, hence why I like to plan ahead.  This way I can make the most of my “free time”.  During nap #1 (aka his morning nap), I will use this time to get my 30-minute workout in and hopefully a shower.  This way I get my workout out of the way early, start my day with a boost of energy and can enjoy whatever comes our way!
  • If you want to stay on track I say have a plan. For me, I don’t plan to get up at a certain time in the morning as my son’s sleep can be unpredictable and for me getting enough sleep is important.  So, I plan my workouts around naps instead.  Whatever you do, make it a priority.
  • Do NOT get down on yourself if you miss a workout. That doesn’t constitute the end of your journey.  As long as you are moving forward that’s all that matters.

 

I’m not perfect and I won’t lie and tell you that I workout every single day and I eat healthy 100% of the time.  I enjoy a glass of wine just as much as the next gal.  I have simply learned that if I miss a workout or enjoy that glass of wine I am not derailing all of my efforts and remind myself this is a journey I am on.  I focus on eating healthy at least 80% of the time.  There will be bumps in the road.  It is how you move forward that matters.

I am always working to become better, stronger, healthier.  I am always working on being an amazing role model for my son.  I am always working on being a better wife to my husband.

Don’t be afraid of traveling.  Make a plan.  And remember that no matter what happens your journey to being healthier continues.

Stop the Gimmicks – Bingeing, Diet Pills and Fads OH MY

In the past, I was the queen of fad diets and extremes.  In college, I would gain 15/20 pounds during the school year and lose it over the summer months by working out loads and eating nothing but salad.  No lie, this happened all four years!  For me, it was all or nothing.  My mindset was always that you either spent a ridiculous amount of time at the gym and starve yourself or sit on the couch and eat ice cream all day – there was no in-between.  If you had one bad day, then everything you had worked for would be thrown out the window so I would just give up.  My whole life has been this way – exaggerated one extreme or another – being extremely active or hanging out on the couch binge watching my favorite shows.  For me, I didn’t feel like or realize that a “happy medium” was doable.  I was that person who tried everything – every gimmick and crazy fad to lose weight.  You name it, I tried it – diet pills (ended up with a stomach condition), starvation (loved food too much for this one to stick), Weight Watchers (hated counting / figuring out “points”), Atkins Diet (really no pasta for the rest of my life, no thanks), Caveman Diet (come on!), Cabbage Soup Diet, Celebrity Liquid Diet (urge to chew my food would takeover and have you tasted this stuff??) and on and on.  The gimmicks are out there and in full force trying to take your money for results that are too good to be true and guess what – THEY ARE!

Fast forward to August 2015, after a mere 23 hours a labor, I gave birth to my little bit of heaven on earth and tiniest love of my love.  My emotions and hormones were running rampant.  I knew my body has just done something truly amazing and life changing but I felt horrible about myself.  I felt off, fat and uncomfortable in my skin.  I knew I needed to do something but wanted it to be lasting.  I didn’t want another fad diet but I also did not have the time to spend hours at the gym away from my home and family.  Unless I wanted to be getting up even earlier than I was already or heading out at 7/8pm to workout, I needed to find another way.

That is when Beachbody entered my life.  The plethora of workout programs has something for everyone, no matter what your goals are – losing weight, toning up, gaining muscle, simply sweating it out, etc.  But it is so much more than this.  It is a community of people, supporting and encouraging one another.  Being there for you no matter what.  What initially got me was that I could workout from the comfort of my home, anytime I wanted and most workouts are only 30 minutes – score.  I didn’t need to be away from the house or my new little one for hours a day.  I could workout in my living room, during naptimes.  Why wouldn’t you give it a try?!  And that is exactly what I did.  I, like most people, started out on this journey of mine on January 2nd.  By May, I had lost my baby weight, had more energy and felt great!  So why not pay it forward, become a Beachbody Coach myself, continue on this journey of mine and get to help others at the same time.  We’re now into June, I’m nearing a 30 pound weight loss, I feel better than ever and have no plans of stopping anytime soon.

Don’t be fooled by the gimmicks!  The results you see from any of the Beachbody programs – P90X, Insanity Max, PiYo, 21 Day Fix, to just name a few – are all real results, from real people.  Trust me, I recently completed 1 round of 21 Day Fix Extreme – lost 6 pounds and 8.5 inches.  I didn’t starve. I didn’t spend a ridiculous amount of time at the gym.  If it can happen to me then why can’t it happen to you?  Give it a try and see transformation happen to YOU!

For the first time in my life, I feel like I am truly in a good place.  My overall happiness and confidence is much greater than it has been in a long time.  My marriage is in a great place, I am absolutely loving being a mom to my crazy adorable little man and I’m finally feeling good about myself.  Have I been fitter in my life – yes, have I weighed less in my life – yes, have I been healthier in my life – that ones up for debate.  But right now, in this moment, I have never been more confidant and felt genuinely positive about my body and who I am.  I am on a journey to become stronger, in myself and my relationships. I have realized this journey I am on is so much greater than simply wanting to lose weight but to become a better, stronger version of myself. It’s not simply about creating a healthy lifestyle but about following your passions.  I just wish it hadn’t taken me 5+ months postpartum to figure out!
